Department of Defense Neurofibromatosis Research Program
Anticipated Funding Opportunities for Fiscal Year 2011 (FY11)

The Department of Defense Neurofibromatosis Research Program (NFRP) is administered by the US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command through the Office of Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).

Congressional funds for the Fiscal Year 2011 (FY11) NFRP have NOT yet been appropriated. The NFRP anticipates offering the following award mechanisms for FY11 pending availability of congressional funds. This pre-announcement should not be construed as an obligation by the government.

  • Clinical Consortium Award
    Supports a multi-institutional consortium that will conceive, develop, and conduct collaborative clinical trials focused on NF1 and NF2 therapeutic interventions
  • Clinical Trial Award
    Supports funding for Phase 0, I, or II clinical trials relevant to NF and/or Schwannomatosis
  • Exploration - Hypothesis Development Award
    Supports the initial exploration of innovative, untested research, and the pursuit of serendipitous observations
  • Investigator-Initiated Research Award
    Supports basic and clinically oriented research relevant to NF and/or Schwannomatosis
  • Investigator-Initiated Focused Research Award
    Supports basic and clinically oriented research relevant to NF and/or Schwannomatosis that must address one or more of the following research areas: Pain, wound repair, nerve regeneration, stress and inflammation, and/or cognitive dysfunction
  • New Investigator Award
    Supports the career transition and/or continued development of promising independent investigators in the field of NF research
  • Postdoctoral Traineeship
    Enables recent medical or other doctoral degree graduates to obtain the necessary experience to pursue an independent career in NF research
