DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE - CONGRESSIONALLY DIRECTED MEDICAL RESEARCH PROGRAMS

Medical Simulation and Information Sciences Cover Image
The Joint Program Committee-1/Medical Simulation and Information Sciences Research Program (JPC-1/MSISRP) plans, coordinates, and oversees science and technology research focusing on optimizing Warfighter capability and capacity to provide front line medical care and intervention support in operational environments through: investments and transitions of medical robotics, intelligent and autonomous systems, and clinical decision support tools; and enhancing education and training to augment cognitive and physical skills and abilities. The need for strategic planning provides a future integrated pathway enabling interoperability, digitization of medical data, optimized learning with retention for individuals and team environments, and safe and effective advanced medical technologies.

JPC-1/MSIS works with the services and joint agencies to address gaps and requirements as identified by the Military Health System (MHS) and is responsible for programming research in the following areas:

  • Medical Simulation and Training
  • Medical Assist Support Technologies

The establishment of the JPC-1/MSIS has enabled a more collaborative process to identify and validate the research initiatives pertaining to the military. The portfolios assist in the identification, assessment and transition of relevant emerging technologies that are of value into the MHS. This ultimately allows the US Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC) and the Defense Health Agency (DHA) to better align its research and development efforts with the needs of the MHS.
