DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE - CONGRESSIONALLY DIRECTED MEDICAL RESEARCH PROGRAMS

U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command

September 21, 2005

Dear Funded Investigator:

We are writing to investigators with current grants from the Department of Defense (DOD) Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) who are located in the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster zone and may have experienced damage resulting from Hurricane Katrina. On behalf of the CDMRP, we wish to express concern and sympathy for the losses you may have suffered as a result of this devastating storm. If you have suffered damage that will compromise your ability to perform the research funded by your DOD grant, we may be able to provide assistance. Contact us via email (cdmrp.pa@amedd.army.mil), this website (at Contact Us), or by phone at 301.619.7071. Please describe your losses and any mitigation that will be essential to the continuation of your CDMRP funded research. You should not seek to duplicate disaster relief you may receive from insurance coverage, your institution, your State, or from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

CDMRP will consider requests for extensions of performance period, as well as changes to the payment schedule and to the Statement of Work. Although available funds are limited, we will also consider request for supplemental funding to replace lost supplies, equipment, and unique resources necessary for completion of the research.

We look forward to receiving this information as soon as possible so that we can determine the degree of the problem, and formulate plans to help you in continuing your research.

Sincerely,

Janet R. Harris, RN, Ph.D.
Colonel, U.S. Army Nurse Corps
Director, CDMRP
