Department of Defense Announces Awards Summary for FY98 Neurofibromatosis Research Program

The U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), through the Department of Defense Office of Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP), is pleased to announce the awards summary for the Fiscal Year 1998 (FY98) Neurofibromatosis Research Program (NFRP). The programmatic strategy for the FY98 NFRP sought to support extramural research directed toward the diagnosis, treatment and understanding of neurofibromatosis type I and II, as well as toward enhancing the quality of life for individuals with the disease. Investigator-Initiated Awards were solicited to support basic research that would lead to clinical trials relevant to decreasing the impact of neurofibromatosis.

Nine Investigator-Initiated proposals were awarded to the following institutions: University of Utah, House Ear Institute, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, University of Miami, Louisiana State University Medical Center, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, and ChildrenÂ’s Hospital Medical Center of Cincinnati.

More information about these awards as well as other CDMRP research programs and awards, including those of breast cancer, prostate cancer, and ovarian cancer, can be found at the CDMRP web site: https://cdmrp.army.mil.
