A Tribute to Ovarian Cancer Consumers

The mission of the Department of Defense (DoD) Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP) is to support patient-centered research to prevent, detect, treat, and cure ovarian cancer. With that mission, we bring hope to many that one day ovarian cancer will be eliminated. The work that is supported by the DoD OCRP could not be accomplished without the selfless efforts of our consumers. These courageous women work tirelessly to secure funding for ovarian cancer research, promote awareness through education, provide comfort and support to those recently diagnosed or going through treatments, and serve on DoD OCRP review panels. The OCRP consumers work alongside scientists and clinicians in identifying research that could potentially have the greatest impact on the ovarian cancer community. They well represent the many advocates and ovarian cancer organizations that serve countless others.

During Ovarian Cancer Awareness month, we would like to take the time to thank our consumers, both those who continue the fight and those who have left us all too quickly. We thank these women for the strength, passion, perseverance, and dedication they have brought to the OCRP and to the vision of conquering this disease. Many of these women know they will not receive the benefits of the research they review; nevertheless, they contribute their precious time knowing they can make a difference in the lives of women who follow - they provide hope. The contributions of these consumers, along with other women who so generously have served throughout the ovarian cancer community, will not be forgotten.
