TECHNICAL ABSTRACT

The focus will be to develop novel antioxidant therapies for traumatic brain injury (TBI) using functionalized single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs). The first targets for synthesis will be SWCNTs containing various forms of butylated hydroxytoluene, a well-known antioxidant. Another target will be functionalized SWCNTs that can deliver nitric oxide to cells. As results become available from our collaborators, Dr. Kent and Dr. Robertson, the structures will be fine-tuned and variations will be synthesized.
