TECHNICAL ABSTRACT

The Genomics Core will carry out a number of integrated studies looking at the interaction of clinical symptoms and syndromes associated with PTSD, treatment response, genetic variants, gene expression analyses, and biochemical and biophysical markers of stress. The overall goal of the Genomics Core is to identify genetic variants and biologic markers which predict onset of PTSD, influence the expression of PTSD, and which moderate response to treatment. The purpose of this study is to determine specific genetic factors that are associated with PTSD in the STRONG STAR cohort, with an ultimate goal of being able to provide pre-exposure screening to characterize those military personnel most at risk to develop the disorder. Genomics Core studies will not be intervention studies, but will analyze naturalistic data to better identify and predict treatment outcomes and to help future design future prevention and intervention studies (beyond the scope of this grant).
