Department of Defense Ovarian Cancer Research Program
Funding for Fiscal Year 2010

The Fiscal Year 2010 (FY10) Defense Appropriations Act provides $18.75 million to the Department of Defense Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP) to eliminate ovarian cancer by supporting innovative, high-impact research. This program is administered by the US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC) through the Office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP). The OCRP is providing the information in this pre-announcement to allow investigators time to plan and develop proposals. FY10 OCRP program announcements and general application instructions for the following award mechanisms are anticipated to be posted on Grants.gov in January 2010*, unless noted otherwise. (https://www.grants.gov and https://CDMRP.HEALTH.MIL, respectively) in late January/early February 2010.

Pilot Award Investigators at all academic levels (or equivalent)
  • Supports conceptually innovative, high-risk/high-reward research, which could ultimately lead to critical discoveries or major advancements that will drive the field of ovarian cancer forward
  • Preliminary data are not required, but are allowed
  • Preproposal is required; proposal submission is by invitation only.
  • NEW FOR FY10: Optional nested Teal Predoctoral Scholar: Proposals having predoctoral candidates that meet the criteria outlined in the Program Announcement/Funding Opportunity will qualify for a higher level of funding.
  • Maximum funding of $200,000 for direct costs (plus indirect costs)
  • Maximum funding of $250,000 for direct costs with a qualified nested Teal Predoctoral Scholar (plus indirect costs)
  • Period of performance not to exceed 2 years
Translational Pilot Award Investigators at all academic levels (or equivalent)
  • Supports innovative translational research addressing a critical problem or question in ovarian cancer that will accelerate the movement of promising ideas toward clinical applications
  • Proposals are encouraged that specifically address critical needs of the ovarian cancer community in the following areas for the Translational Pilot Award only:
    • Initiation and precursor lesion of ovarian cancer
    • Understanding of the host and microenvironment
    • Novel imaging approaches for screening and management
    • Novel approaches for the evaluation of predictive biomarkers
    • Innovative insights into etiology and risk factors for ovarian cancer
  • Preliminary data are not required, but are allowed
  • Preproposal is required; proposal submission is by invitation only
  • NEW FOR FY10: Optional Nested Teal Predoctoral Scholar: Proposals having predoctoral candidates that meet the criteria outlined in the Program Announcement/Funding Opportunity will qualify for a higher level of funding
  • Maximum funding of $200,000 for direct costs (plus indirect costs)
  • Maximum funding of $250,000 for direct costs with a qualified nested Teal Predoctoral Scholar (plus indirect costs)
  • Period of performance not to exceed 2 years

*The second of the two-phase Consortium Award will be released in March 2010; eligibility will be limited to the recipients of the FY08 and FY09 Consortium Development Award.

All applications must conform to the final program announcements and general application instructions that will be available for electronic downloading from the Grants.gov website. The application package containing the required forms for each award mechanism will also be found on Grants.gov. A listing of all USAMRMC funding opportunities can be obtained on the Grants.gov website by performing a basic search using CFDA Number 12.420.

A pre-application is required and must be submitted through the(CDMRP eReceipt website (https://cdmrp.org)) prior to application submission. Applications must be submitted through the federal government's single-entry portal, Grants.gov Requests for email notification of the Program Announcements release may be sent to Help@cdmrp.org.
