Department of Defense Spinal Cord Injury Research Program (SCIRP)
Funding for Fiscal Year 2009 (FY09)

The US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP), has received congressional appropriations in Fiscal Year 2009 (FY09) to establish a Spinal Cord Injury Research Program (SCIRP). Appropriations in the amount of $35 Million will be managed specifically to address research and treatment of spinal cord injuries.

The SCIRP will be managed utilizing CDMRP's two-tier review process recommended by the Institute of Medicine. Tentative milestones for this program are listed below.

March 2009: Stakeholders Meeting
May 2009: Vision Setting
May 2009: Program Announcement release
August 2009: Proposal receipt
September 2009: Scientific Peer Review of proposals
December 2009/January 2010: Programmatic Review for funding recommendations
