Department of Defense Peer Reviewed Medical Research Program
Funding Opportunities for Fiscal Year 2009
The Fiscal Year 2009 (FY09) Defense Appropriations Act provides $50 million to the Department of Defense Peer
Reviewed Medical Research Program (PRMRP) to provide support for exceptional medical research to protect and
support military personnel and all beneficiaries and to eradicate diseases that impact these populations. This
program is administered by the US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command through the Office of the
Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).
FY09 PRMRP Congressionally Directed Topic Areas:
Proposed research must be focused in one of the following 19 topic areas: Alcoholism Research; Autoimmune Diseases;
Blood Cancer; Childhood Asthma; Drug Abuse; Epilepsy; Kidney Cancer; Listeria Vaccine for Infectious Diseases and
Cancer; Lupus, Mesothelioma; Molecular Signatures in Tumors; Neuroblastoma; Osteoporosis and Related Bone Disease;
Paget's Disease; Pediatric Cancer; Polycystic Kidney Disease; Social Work Research; Tinnitus; West Nile Virus
Vaccine.
FY09 PRMRP Program Announcements will be released in January 2009 for the award mechanisms listed in the
table below.

Information in this preannouncement is being provided to allow investigators time to plan and develop proposals.
All applications submitted must conform to the requirements specified in the final Program Announcements, to be
posted in Grants.gov by the end of January 2009. The number of awards anticipated is based on available funds and
average cost of proposals. The PRMRP reserves the right to make awards in greater or lesser numbers than
anticipated. As of 2007, proposals requesting funding from the CDMRP have been submitted through the Federal
Government's single-entry portal, Grants.gov, in compliance with Public Law 106-107. Each Program Announcement and
corresponding Application Instructions & General Information, detailing the pre-application and application
submission process, along with the required forms for proposal submission, will be available electronically for
downloading from the Grants.gov website (https://www.grants.gov) upon release.
Also, Program Announcements and corresponding Application Instructions & General Information will be available on
the CDMRP website (https://CDMRP.HEALTH.MIL). Each award mechanism will require
submission of a pre-application including a letter of intent (LOI) through the CDMRP eReceipt website,
https://cdmrp.org. Pre-application LOI and application submission deadlines will
be listed in the Program Announcements.
