Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program
Fiscal Year 2005 Concept Award Funding Opportunity
Due to the overwhelming response to previous years' Concept Awards, the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP) expects to announce a $15 million initiative to support Fiscal Year 2005 Concept Awards. The BCRP plans to solicit electronic submissions for short (one-page) Concept Award proposals in a Program Announcement to be released by the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs in mid-December 2005. Investigators at all levels are invited to apply. Awards can be requested for $75,000 in direct costs over a 12-month performance period, plus indirect costs as appropriate. The proposal submission deadline is anticipated to be February 1, 2006. These proposals will be reviewed and negotiated expeditiously so that awards will be finalized no later than September 30, 2006.
Concept Awards are intended to fund an initial concept or theory that could give rise to a testable hypothesis within breast cancer research. Proposals should postulate a new paradigm, challenge existing paradigms, or examine an existing problem from a new perspective. As in prior years, projects involving human subjects or human anatomical substances will not be supported unless they are exempt under 32 CFR 219.101(b)(4) (details will be provided in the actual Program Announcement).
A detailed description of this mechanism, including evaluation criteria, specific submission requirements, and deadlines will be available in the FY05 BCRP Concept Award Program Announcement. This Program Announcement will be available electronically for downloading from the CDMRP web site (https://cdmrp.health.mil) upon its release in mid-December 2005.
Requests for e-mail notification when Program Announcements are released may be sent to prequest@constellagroup.com.
