The Fiscal Year 2005 (FY05) Defense Appropriations Act provides $4.25 million to the Department of Defense Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia Research Program (CMLRP). This program is administered by the US Army Medical Research and Materiel Command through the Office of Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).

A Therapeutic Development Award Program Announcement for the CMLRP was released on 13 December 2004.

In addition, the following FY05 CMLRP Program Announcement for proposals is expected to be released in March 2005:

Exploration - Hypothesis Development. These awards are intended to support initial exploration of innovative, untested, potentially groundbreaking concepts in CML. Preliminary data is not required, although sound reasoning and a feasibility assessment are integral components. Investigators at all levels are encouraged to apply. The maximum funding amount is $150,000, inclusive of direct and indirect costs, for a performance period of up to 24 months. The Program Announcement is planned for release in March 2005 with a submission deadline in June 2005.

A detailed description of this mechanism, including evaluation criteria, specific submission requirements, and deadlines will be available in the FY05 CMLRP Program Announcements. This Program Announcement will be available electronically for downloading from the CDMRP web site (https://cdmrp.army.mil) upon its release in March 2005.
