Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program Announces Era of Hope Scholar Awards

Due to enthusiasm for fiscal year 2004 (FY04) Era of Hope Scholar Awards, the Department of Defense (DOD) Breast Cancer Research Program (BCRP) will be offering a second opportunity for individuals to compete for these awards in FY04. The BCRP plans to announce a $16 million initiative to support these awards on or about December 17, 2004.

Era of Hope Scholar Awards are intended for exceptionally talented, early-career scientists (within 6 years or less of completing training) who have demonstrated that they are the best and the brightest in their field(s) through extraordinary creativity, vision, and productivity, and who have shown a strong potential for leadership in the breast cancer community as well as a vision for the eradication of breast cancer. Awards can be requested for up to $2.5 million in direct costs for up to a 5-year performance period, plus indirect costs as appropriate. The receipt deadline is planned for February 10, 2005. These awards will be reviewed and negotiated expeditiously so that research dollars will be available no later than September 30, 2005.
