Department of Defense Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia Research Program Funding Opportunities for Fiscal Year 2003

The Fiscal Year 2003 (FY03) Defense Appropriations Act provides $4.25 million to the Department of Defense Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia Research Program (CMLRP) to support innovative research directed toward eliminating Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia. This program is administered by the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command through the Office of the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP).

This FY03 CMLRP Program Announcement will provide $1.2 million for proposals in Exploration-Hypothesis Development Awards

Exploration-Hypothesis Development Awards are intended to support initial exploration of innovative, untested, and potentially groundbreaking concepts in chronic myelogenous leukemia. Objectives are to improve (1) the understanding of the basic science of chronic myelogenous leukemia, (2) the diagnosis of chronic myelogenous leukemia, (3) the treatment of chronic myelogenous leukemia, and (4) the quality of life for individuals and their families living with chronic myelogenous leukemia. The Exploration-Hypothesis Development Award is not intended to support ongoing work. Preliminary data are not required. Projects using human subjects or specimens will not be supported unless exempt or expedited (see full Program Announcement for details). Independent investigators with all levels of experience are eligible to apply. Awards up to $100,000 inclusive of direct and indirect costs for up to an 18-month term will be offered.

Timeline:

  • On-Line Letter of Intent: Expected by January 20, 2004
  • Proposal Submission/Approval Deadline: 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time, February 17, 2004
  • Peer Review: April 2004
  • Programmatic Review: July 2004
  • Award Start Date: September 2004
