Anticipated Funding Opportunities for Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24)

The FY24 Defense Appropriations Act provides funding for the Combat Readiness - Medical Research Program (CRRP) to support military-relevant advanced technology and therapeutic research related to forward-deployable solutions that can promptly address life-threatening injuries, medical threats, and treatments for Service Members in current and future battlefield settings. The managing agent for the anticipated program announcements/funding opportunities is the CDMRP at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC).

The CRRP is providing the information in this pre-announcement to allow investigators time to plan and develop ideas for submission to the anticipated FY24 funding opportunities. This pre-announcement should not be construed as an obligation by the government. The FY24 CRRP funding opportunity announcements for the following award mechanisms will be posted on the Grants.gov website. Pre-application and application deadlines will be available when the announcements are released.

Applications submitted to the FY24 CRRP must address one or more of the following focus areas:

  • Solutions to address threats to Warfighter readiness in operational environments
    • Combat medical skills sustainment training
    • Medical simulation technology
    • Sleep disorders
    • Eating disorders
    • Valley fever
    • Highly infectious disease treatment and transport
    • Infectious disease
  • Solutions to enhance delivery of care in point of injury, austere resuscitative and surgical care, prolonged casualty care, and en route care environments: Battlefield diagnostics, triage, and decision aid tools
    • Telemedicine
    • Medical simulation technology
    • Infectious disease
    • Traumatic brain injury biomarkers
    • Blast sensor technology
    • Antibiotic susceptibility test development
  • Solutions to enhance delivery of care in point of injury, austere resuscitative and surgical care, prolonged casualty care, and en route care environments: Treatments
    • Freeze-dried plasma and platelets
    • Battlefield wound care technologies, including therapies and devices
    • Purified exosomal products to treat battlefield orthopedic injuries
    • Highly infectious disease treatment and transport
    • Hemorrhage field care
    • Infectious disease
  • Solutions addressing other threats to Warfighter readiness in nonoperational environments
    • Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome
    • Hydrocephalus research
    • Dietary interventions and noninvasive brain stimulation in support of post-traumatic stress disorder
    • Infectious disease


Award Mechanism Eligibility Key Mechanism Elements Funding
Translational Research Award Extramural and intramural applicants:
Independent investigators at all academic levels (or equivalent)
  • Submission of a preproposal is required; application submission is by invitation only.
  • Supports hypothesis-driven, high-impact translational research.
  • Supports high-impact translational research that will accelerate the movement of innovative research into clinical applications, including health care products, interventions, technologies, and/or clinical practice guidelines.
  • Proposed research must address at least one of the FY24 CRRP focus areas.
  • Supports preclinical research, clinical research, and small-scale clinical trials (e.g., first in human, phase 1/1b). Fundamental basic research, phase 2/3 clinical trials are not supported under this funding opportunity.
  • Preliminary data are required.
  • Maximum funding of $1,100,000 for total costs (to include direct and indirect costs).
  • Maximum period of performance is 2 years.

A pre-application is required and must be submitted through the electronic Biomedical Research Application Portal (eBRAP) at https://eBRAP.org prior to the pre-application deadline. All applications must conform to the final funding opportunity announcements that will be available for downloading from the Grants.gov website. The application package containing the required forms for each award mechanism will also be found on Grants.gov. A listing of all CDMRP and other USAMRDC extramural funding opportunities can be obtained on the Grants.gov website by performing a basic search using CFDA Number 12.420.
