Congressional language stipulates the FY25 PRCRP must not address research in melanoma, or cancers originating in the breast, prostate, or ovary. Applicants are directed to apply to the individual CDMRP cancer programs in those disease areas. In addition, FY25 PRCRP funds must not be used to study rare cancers except for types and subtypes of the FY25 PRCRP topic areas that are rare by definition. ¹ Metastatic cancer is cancer that has spread from its original location to another place in the body, representing what are known as stage III and stage IV cancer diagnoses. While recent research has revealed that there is a genetic basis for susceptibility or resistance to metastasis, more research is needed to develop a comprehensive understanding of this complex process.
