DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE - CONGRESSIONALLY DIRECTED MEDICAL RESEARCH PROGRAMS

NEWS RELEASE

Released: January 03, 2024

Department of Defense
Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP)
Peer Reviewed Alzheimer's Research Program
Anticipated Funding Opportunities for Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24)

The FY24 Defense Appropriations Bill has not been signed into law. Although FY24 funds have not been appropriated for the Peer Reviewed Alzheimer’s Disease Research Program (PRARP), the PRARP is providing the information in this pre-announcement to allow investigators time to plan and develop ideas for submission to the anticipated FY24 funding opportunities. This pre-announcement should not be construed as an obligation by the government.

The FY24 Defense Appropriations Act is anticipated to provide funding for the PRARP to support research that addresses the long-term implications of military service as they pertain to Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and related dementias (ADRD) for Service Members, Veterans, and the general public. The managing agent for the anticipated funding opportunities is the CDMRP at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC).

The PRARP is providing the information in this pre-announcement to allow investigators time to plan and develop ideas for submission to the anticipated FY24 funding opportunities. This pre-announcement should not be construed as an obligation by the government. The FY24 PRARP funding opportunity announcements for the following award mechanisms will be posted on the Grants.gov website. Pre-application and application deadlines will be available when the announcements are released.

All FY24 PRARP mechanisms have a Career Initiation or Transition Partnering PI Option (CITPO) to encourage research capacity in this critical area. The CITPO investigator should have only nominal research support in the field and can be either a) a junior investigator three or more years from their terminal degree but no more than seven years into an independent position and/or b) transitioning from another field to the AD/ADRD/TBI field, and has only nominal, if any, publications in the AD-related field.
