Peer Reviewed Cancer
Vision – To advance mission readiness of U.S. military members affected by cancer.
Since Fiscal Year 2009 (FY09), the Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program (PRCRP) has funded innovative basic, applied, translational, and clinical cancer research to support Service members, Veterans, their families, and the American public. Members of the military are at risk for development of cancer because of their exposure to hazardous environments as part of their duties and deployments. The mission of the PRCRP is to protect and sustain military readiness by promoting high-impact research for cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and survivorship. To accomplish this, the PRCRP invests in the full spectrum of cancer research from discovery to clinical application, focusing on funding gaps in the research landscape.
The PRCRP is a multi-topic research program and has supported over 1100 awards under 33 congressionally-directed topic areas including specific cancer types, groups of cancers, and cancer research areas such as immunology. The PRCRP topic areas represent 72% of cancer- related medical encounters by active-duty Service Members and their family members1. A list of the current PRCRP topic areas is below.
